Father of 12 dies, lawsuit filed against Two Rivers Terminal
A father of 12 tragically died while cleaning a tanker truck filled with toxic chemicals in Washington state. The state claims he had not received the proper training for this dangerous job. Viktor Voloshin was working as a contracted truck driver for Two Rivers Terminal when the incident occurred on June 7, 2024. His son, Dmitriy, shared the heartbreak of losing their father, who immigrated from Ukraine 30 years ago and was known for working hard to support his large family. According to a lawsuit from the Voloshin family, Viktor was ordered to clean a truck that had carried a hazardous chemical without any training or safety plan. Security footage shows him starting the job alone, without protection, and without supervision. Tragically, he died from toxic fumes inside the tanker. Family members and firefighters were on the scene to witness the incident. Two Rivers Terminal has a troubling safety record. The company tops Washington state's list of severe workplace safety violators, with 106 safety violations since 2022. They have repeatedly failed to provide necessary safety equipment and training, despite warnings that could result in serious injury or death. This isn't the first accident involving Two Rivers. Just a year before Viktor's death, another employee suffered serious injuries after falling while working with similar chemicals. Dmitriy expressed frustration that the company did not learn from past mistakes, prioritizing business over employee safety. Two Rivers is currently appealing safety violations and trying to move the lawsuit to federal court. An attorney for the Voloshin family described the situation as the worst safety failure he has seen in his 41 years of practice. He believes that if the company had followed safety rules, Viktor would still be alive. The loss of Viktor has left his family in deep grief. His children are especially worried about their mother, who is now without her main provider. They aim to seek justice not only for themselves but to ensure that other families do not suffer similar losses. The family hopes for changes in safety practices to prevent future tragedies.
