Father shows indifference during search for missing baby

A man named Mark Gordon is on trial for the manslaughter of his baby daughter, Victoria. During a police search for the missing baby, Gordon was heard complaining about being hungry while police were focused on finding the child. Recording from a police officer's body camera revealed the tense questioning following the couple’s arrest after a nationwide search. The officer persistently asked Gordon about the baby's whereabouts. At the time, they did not know that Victoria had already died. Gordon complained that he hadn’t had a proper meal for months. Despite being in custody, officers gave him food but were more concerned about the baby’s safety. The officer repeatedly urged Gordon to help find the child, even after Gordon expressed a keen interest in the food he was given. The couple had previously kept the birth of Victoria a secret after having four other children taken into care. They had lived in a makeshift tent before the baby died while they were off-grid in late January 2023. Authorities discovered Victoria’s body days after the couple’s arrest on February 27, 2023, inside a shopping bag in a shed near Brighton. Gordon and his partner, Constance Marten, have denied the charges of gross negligence manslaughter. Their trial has been ongoing, with a prior conviction for concealing the birth of a child. The retrial will continue next week.
