Father-son duo uncovers rare historic coins in Poland
A father-son team, Sławomir and Szymon Milewscy, discovered 17 rare historic coins while metal detecting near Pomiechówek, Poland. The coins, dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries, were found during a search for evidence of a Roman road. The coins include thalers and paragon coins, which were significant in European trade. Their estimated material value is around 500,000 Polish zlotys, or about $122,000. Archaeologist Piotr Duda described the find as "unbelievable" and noted its historical importance. The treasure will be handed over to the Mazovian Voivodeship Conservator of Monuments and eventually displayed in a museum. This discovery is considered one of the largest of its kind in Poland, particularly for coins from this era.
