FBI warns Gmail, Outlook users about ransomware threats
The FBI and the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) are warning Gmail, Outlook, and other email users about a ransomware threat. This threat comes from the Medusa ransomware gang, which has been active since 2021. Medusa targets its victims by encrypting their data and demanding a ransom. If the ransom is not paid, they threaten to release sensitive information publicly. So far, this scheme has affected over 300 victims across various industries. To stay safe, the FBI and CISA advise users to be cautious about emails. They recommend reporting suspicious messages, blocking the senders, and deleting the emails. Additionally, using strong, unique passwords and enabling multifactor authentication for email accounts can help protect private information.
