FDA raided illegal drug unit in Sonepat, Haryana
Haryana's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has raided an illegal drug manufacturing unit in Sonepat. The operation took place early Monday morning in the industrial area of Kharkhoda. Officials found many fake tablets and capsules that were unlawfully packaged. During the raid, authorities detained a man named Yogesh Kumar from Sirsa district. A legal case is being filed against him under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act of 1940. State drug controller Manmohan Taneja reported that the FDA seized various equipment, including blister packaging machines and capsule filling machines. Large quantities of drugs, specifically five sacks of tablets and two drums of capsules, were also recovered. The drugs included well-known brands like Azithromycin and Pantop D SR. These medications require proper licensing to manufacture, which the unit lacked. The FDA acted after receiving several complaints about illegal drug production at this site. Investigations revealed that the addresses on the drug labels were fake. Companies purportedly based in Himachal Pradesh and Maharashtra denied any connection to the products. Taneja noted that the unit only performed blister packing for some pills and that the actual manufacturing likely took place elsewhere. The investigation is ongoing, and more information may surface during the questioning of the detained individual.
