Federal agents arrest Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil
Federal agents arrested Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian activist and Columbia University graduate student, in a video released on Friday. The arrest occurred in his apartment building lobby, alarming free-speech advocates and prompting a Justice Department investigation into the university. Khalil, a lawful U.S. resident, had his permission to stay revoked due to his involvement in pro-Palestinian protests. His wife, Noor Abdalla, who is pregnant, described the arrest as terrifying and expressed concern for their future. Khalil is currently held in a detention center in Louisiana. His lawyers claim he was denied access to legal counsel during his detention and that he fears missing the birth of his child.
