Federal agents detained 64 Haitian migrants on Thursday after they were abandoned by smugglers on Mona Island, west of Puerto Rico. The group included 30 men, 28 women, and six minors. This incident marks the third time in recent weeks that migrants have been left stranded on the island. Two weeks ago, 31 migrants were rescued, followed by another 14 last Sunday. Haitians are increasingly fleeing their country due to worsening poverty and instability, which has left over 700,000 people homeless in recent years.
