Federal judge blocks Trump's deportation attempt of activist
A federal judge in New York has blocked the Trump administration's attempt to deport Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian activist and former Columbia University student. Khalil was arrested by immigration officials over the weekend. Khalil, who holds a U.S. green card, was involved in anti-Israel protests at Columbia. The Department of Homeland Security claims he participated in activities linked to Hamas. Khalil's lawyers are seeking his return to Manhattan, where they filed a habeas petition. He is currently being held at a detention facility in Jena, Louisiana.
