Ferrari is creating an engaging driving experience for EVs

Ferrari is developing its first electric vehicle (EV) and aims to make it enjoyable to drive. Recently, Ferrari filed patents in the U.S. that focus on enhancing the feeling of shifting gears in EVs. Although some people believe nothing can replicate the experience of a powerful V12 engine, Ferrari is determined to meet this challenge with their electric cars. One patent proposes a system that mimics the feel of a traditional transmission. It detects the accelerator's position and the selected gear to adjust the torque applied to the wheels. This system would create distinct driving experiences that feel unique for each virtual gear, similar to conventional sports cars. Additionally, Ferrari is working on an acoustic system to provide audio feedback that matches the vehicle's performance. This system aims to enhance the driver’s connection to the car, especially during energetic driving. The first Ferrari EV has been spotted featuring hub motors, and the company has filed patents for various innovative technologies. These include generating sound through resonance tubes and even using airflow to create external sounds. The reveal of Ferrari's first EV is expected later this year, with plans for a market launch in 2026. While many brands are also entering the electric market, Ferrari hopes to deliver a standout experience that reflects its racing heritage and performance standards.
