FIDE responds to allegations of match-fixing in Ding Liren's loss to D Gukesh
The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has responded to accusations that China's Ding Liren deliberately lost to India's D Gukesh in the 2024 World Chess Championship. Russian Chess Federation chief Andrei Filatov called for an investigation into the match's outcome. Ding made a significant mistake in Game 14, allowing Gukesh to win and become the youngest world chess champion. Filatov expressed doubts about Ding's performance, suggesting it was suspicious and warranted further scrutiny. FIDE chief Arkady Dvorkovich dismissed the allegations, stating that mistakes are part of sports. He emphasized that errors can lead to exciting moments in competition. Gukesh won the match with 7.5 points, earning a prize of $1.3 million.
