Fifteen bodies recovered in Sharg Elnil, Sudan
In Sharg Elnil, Sudan, Red Crescent volunteers recovered 15 bodies from a well after the army recaptured the area from paramilitary fighters. Most victims had gunshot wounds, and some showed signs of being alive when thrown in. The army's recent advances have revealed evidence of killings in regions previously controlled by the Rapid Support Forces. Residents reported that armed men had prevented them from burying the victims during the RSF's occupation. The RSF has denied allegations of widespread abuses and claims it will hold individual perpetrators accountable. The army has also faced accusations of misconduct, which it denies.
