Fifth fatal accident occurs on Jessore Road this month

A man working for a multinational company was killed in a tragic accident on Jessore Road in Kolkata. The incident happened on Friday night when a dumper truck crashed into his scooter. Soumen Paul, who was 30 years old, was riding with his wife, Sushmita, and their three-year-old son, Souradeep. The dumper hit the scooter from behind and dragged Soumen's body for about 300 meters before coming to a stop. His wife and son were both injured and are receiving treatment at a private hospital. They were on their way home to Shibachal, Birati, when the accident occurred in front of a shopping mall near Madhyamgram Chowmatha. Witnesses reported that the dumper driver was driving recklessly and did not stop after the collision. After locals intervened, the driver was finally stopped and arrested by Madhyamgram Traffic Police. This incident marks the fifth fatal crash on Jessore Road since February 16, with at least seven deaths reported from these accidents. Local authorities are facing increasing pressure to improve road safety. A traffic official stated that measures are being introduced to reduce reckless driving and that strict actions are being taken against those who violate traffic rules.
