Filipino crash victim unaware of best friend's death

A serious car crash in Penrose last Sunday resulted in the death of a 48-year-old Filipino man named Jesan Tampus. He was killed when a driver, who was allegedly trying to escape police, crossed into his lane. Tampus died at the scene. The driver of Tampus' vehicle was injured but survived. He is currently in intensive care at Auckland City Hospital, recovering from broken ribs and severe injuries to his upper body and face. The driver has not been informed of his friend’s death, as there are concerns that he might blame himself for the accident. Dennis Magcalas, a Filipino community leader in Auckland, shared details about the driver’s condition. He indicated that the driver had surgery this week and is facing a long recovery process. Tampus is remembered by his friends and family as a dedicated father of three.
