Film "Warfare" depicts Iraq War with rising stars
The new film "Warfare" offers a real-life look at an Iraq War assault. It is co-directed by Ray Mendoza, a U.S. Navy Seal veteran, and filmmaker Alex Garland. The movie portrays Mendoza’s platoon of Navy Seals stationed in insurgent territory during 2006. "Warfare" features a talented cast, including D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Will Poulter, Cosmo Jarvis, Joseph Quinn, and Charles Melton. The actors underwent intensive training and lived together during filming to build a strong bond. The film premiered at the Hollywood America Legion Theater in Los Angeles. It was shown to an audience made up mostly of veterans and military members, with support from various organizations. Instead of a typical red carpet event, the premiere focused on honoring those who serve. Garland explained that the film was created from memories and interviews. He and Mendoza spent time discussing the events that inspired the story. Mendoza expressed that he had wanted to tell this story for a long time but needed to process his experiences first. Now, as they share "Warfare," they aim to communicate the truth of their experiences in combat and the emotions tied to them. The film highlights courageous stories from those who have served.
