Filmax acquires rights to Catalan political drama film

Filmax has acquired the international rights to a new film titled “Our Father, Our President.” This political drama is directed by Manel Huerga, known for his work on “Salvador (Puig Antich).” The film will be showcased at the upcoming Spanish Screenings during the Malaga Film Festival. “Our Father, Our President” focuses on the life of Jordi Pujol, a significant and controversial figure in Catalonia's history. The film stars Josep M. Pou as Pujol and Carme Sansa as his wife, Marta Ferrusola. It explores Pujol’s legacy, particularly after his confession of tax fraud in 2014, which shocked the region. The film highlights Pujol's journey from a symbol of resistance during Franco's rule to a controversial figure entangled in a corruption scandal involving his family. A strong supporting cast includes Pere Arquillué, Eduardo Lloveras, and Alberto San Juan. Filmed in Barcelona using advanced virtual production technology, the project combines chroma key and LED screens. Ivan Díaz, Head of International at Filmax, described the film as a powerful reflection on human contradictions. He believes it will resonate with audiences even outside Spain, capturing themes prevalent in political thrillers. Filmax is set to manage both Spanish distribution and international sales after the film is presented to potential buyers at the festival.
