Imogen Moorsom, a 20-year-old finalist in the BBC Young Musician of the Year, died by suicide after being rejected by four medical schools. The inquest revealed her mental health declined following these rejections and previous struggles during the Covid lockdown. Moorsom had been diagnosed with autism and faced ongoing mental health issues. Despite securing a place at Lancaster University for natural sciences, she struggled to cope with her perceived failures and expressed suicidal thoughts prior to her death. The inquest concluded with a verdict of suicide, noting that Moorsom's mental health deteriorated significantly after her medical school applications were unsuccessful.
