Fingal County drivers owe over €56,000 in fines
In Fingal County, two drivers have racked up parking fines of over €11,000 each. Fingal County Council revealed that ten individuals owe a total of more than €56,000 in unpaid parking tickets. The highest fines include one person with €11,680 and another with €11,600 in outstanding debts. The issue of high parking fines is not unique to Fingal. Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council reported that ten people in its area owe between €2,000 and €8,000 in fines. The largest fine is €7,640, with another offender close behind at €7,520. Last year, Fingal County collected €1.16 million in parking fines, achieving an 84 percent payment rate. In contrast, South Dublin County has a lower collection rate of 73 percent. There, the worst offenders have accumulated debts totaling around €42,000, including one person owing €8,827. South Dublin County Council collected about €361,000 in parking fines last year. They have a private contractor managing their parking services, which includes employing traffic wardens to patrol the area from Monday to Saturday. Fingal County reported a 78 percent collection rate for parking fines, collecting €515,478 in 2024. Their parking wardens enforce regulations in both pay-and-display and non-pay-and-display areas. Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has limited hours for parking enforcement, operating from Monday to Saturday. Unlike Dublin City, they do not do any clamping. Their enforcement efforts focus on various parking violations, including illegal parking in designated areas.
