Finnish director Kuosmanen develops series "Yours, Margot."
Finnish director Juho Kuosmanen is set to work on a new six-episode series called "Yours, Margot." He is best known for his film “Compartment No. 6,” which won the Grand Prix at Cannes. Kuosmanen is teaming up with Elisa Viihde, a Finnish entertainment service that creates original drama series. The series is based on a novel by Meri Valkama. It follows a woman named Vilja, who grew up in East Berlin. After her father's death, she discovers old letters from someone named Margot. This prompts her to explore her family's past in the 1980s. Now a journalist, Vilja seeks to find Margot to uncover the truth. Kuosmanen emphasized the importance of a strong script for the series. He stated that creating a good TV series takes time and effort. Producer Jussi Rantamäki noted that adapting the book into a screenplay is challenging. The team has worked hard to align the tone of the story with the original material. The project has already received recognition. It was awarded €50,000 ($54,000) as part of the Seriesmakers’ Beta Development Awards in 2023. Rantamäki expressed excitement about the project's potential and future international financing. Elisa Viihde's team is enthusiastic about collaborating with Kuosmanen. They believe "Yours, Margot" reflects their commitment to high-quality European drama. The series is expected to appeal to audiences beyond Finland due to its universal themes.
