Fire at Dyno Nobel plant near Biwabik contained quickly
A fire broke out early Tuesday morning at the Dyno Nobel plant near Biwabik, Minnesota. The fire started near an exhaust fan and quickly led to a brief evacuation. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Dyno Nobel is known for making explosives for the mining industry. The fire was contained and extinguished quickly, according to information from the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department. A one-mile evacuation zone was established but lifted shortly after. Mayor Steve Biondich reassured residents that there was no threat to the city of Biwabik. He mentioned on social media that cleanup efforts were underway. The fire began in the boiler room, when an employee spotted smoke and flames. The staff acted quickly, evacuating the facility and contacting firefighters. Thankfully, there was no damage to the explosives or sensitive materials stored at the site. Damage from the fire is still being assessed, and several emergency responders were involved in managing the situation.
