Fire at Russian oil depot rages for five days
A large fire has been burning for five days at an oil depot in southern Russia, causing significant challenges for local firefighters. The fire broke out at the Kavkazskaya oil depot in the Krasnodar region. It reportedly started after debris from a Ukrainian drone attack fell on the facility. Russian authorities say that oil products leaked from a burning tank, complicating efforts to control the blaze, which now covers thousands of square meters. Nearly 500 people and multiple firefighting trains are involved in battling the flames. Targeting fuel storage facilities has become a key strategy for Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia. This is part of Ukraine's effort to disrupt Russia's access to resources needed for its military operations. Despite a U.S.-brokered agreement for a partial ceasefire regarding energy infrastructure, both nations continue to accuse each other of attacking critical facilities. Recently, there have been reports of further attacks related to gas facilities in Russia. The situation at the Kavkazskaya depot remains critical, with firefighters working to extinguish the blaze. Authorities have reported that some areas of the fire have been put out, but challenges remain as the fire continues to threaten the facility.
