A large fire broke out in Ludhiana on Sunday evening. It started around 6:35 PM in a vacant lot on Pakhowal Road where high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes were stored. The fire created a thick cloud of smoke that spread across a major part of the city. Four fire tenders were needed to control the flames, and it took about an hour to put out the fire. The pipes, valued in crores, were part of a project under the Smart City Mission. Locals were concerned about the financial loss caused by the destruction of the pipes, which had been stored for about three years. Officials said these pipes were meant for installation in Gurdev Nagar and Sarabha Nagar. The contractor at the site mentioned that the cause of the fire is still unknown. Fire officials arrived shortly after the flames started and worked quickly to control the situation. District fire officer Kartar Singh confirmed that it took four fire tenders to bring the fire under control.
