Firefighters responded to a condo fire early Friday morning in Copperfield, Calgary. The fire broke out around 3:10 a.m. at a four-storey building with 72 units. Residents were forced to evacuate as smoke filled the area. Kalpesh Bhatt, a resident, noticed the smoke coming from an apartment above and quickly alerted emergency services. Fire alarms and carbon monoxide detectors were triggered in the building. Bhatt left his home and called 911, but firefighters were already en route to the scene. When the firefighters arrived, they found residents evacuating and the building's sprinklers had activated. They used foam to contain the fire and then sprayed water. It took about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control. Fortunately, the damage was limited to the building's exterior. By around 5:15 a.m., the fire chief confirmed that there were no harmful carbon monoxide levels in the damaged condos. Residents were allowed to return to their homes. The cause of the fire is still unknown, and Bhatt remarked that the timing was unusual for such an incident. Calgary police assisted with the evacuation, and transit buses were made available for temporary shelter.
