Fire in Powai building rescues 60 residents, maintains concerns
A fire broke out in the Sai Sapphire tower in Powai, rescuing nearly 60 residents. The incident occurred on the 17th floor early Wednesday morning. Firefighters received the call around 9:30 AM and arrived quickly with fire engines and ambulances. The fire spread through the electric duct from the 9th to the 21st floor. Thick smoke made it difficult for residents to evacuate, but they were safely guided down the stairs. Firefighters put out the fire by 12:02 PM. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported. Mandeep Singh Makkar, from the Chandivali Citizens Welfare Association, mentioned ongoing fire safety issues in the area. He recalled a tragic fire in 2015 that killed seven people. After that event, a mini fire station was set up, but it is not operational due to lack of staff and equipment. Makkar stressed that having working fire engines nearby could have helped respond more quickly to the current fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
