Firefighters and police respond to fast-moving wildfire in Malibu area

A fast-moving wildfire in the Malibu and Ventura area has destroyed dozens of homes and forced over 10,000 residents to evacuate. The fire expanded rapidly, growing from less than half a square mile to 16 square miles in just over five hours. Federal assistance has been approved for the affected area, as the fire threatens 3,500 structures. Strong winds, exceeding 61 mph, have complicated firefighting efforts, limiting visibility and grounding some aircraft. Emergency services contacted 14,000 residents to evacuate as embers spread up to 2.5 miles away. Two people were hospitalized for smoke inhalation, but no major injuries among firefighters have been reported.
