Firefighters gain ground on Southern California wildfire as winds ease
Firefighters in Southern California are making progress against a wildfire that has destroyed 132 structures, primarily homes. The fire, which started Wednesday in Ventura County, has burned 32 square miles and is now 7% contained. Fierce winds that fueled the blaze have begun to subside, allowing some residents to return to their properties. About 10,000 people remain under evacuation orders as the fire threatens 3,500 structures in the area. Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency in Ventura County. Power has been shut off to nearly 70,000 customers in five counties due to the fire risk.
