First mpox vaccine doses arrive in Congo amid outbreak

The first 100,000 doses of the MVA-BN mpox vaccine arrived in Kinshasa, Congo, on September 5, 2024, following the WHO's declaration of a global emergency due to mpox outbreaks in 12 African countries. An additional 100,000 doses are expected soon. Congo has reported over 22,800 cases and 622 deaths, with most infections in children under 15. The country needs 3 million doses to combat the outbreak effectively.
