First recipients of Elizabeth Emblem honor public servants who died in the line of duty
The first recipients of the Elizabeth Emblem have been announced, honoring over 30 public servants who died in the line of duty. The award is given to their next of kin and recognizes the sacrifices made by police officers, firefighters, and other public workers. Among those honored are PCs Nicola Hughes and Fiona Bone, murdered in 2012, and PC Andrew Harper, who died in 2019. The emblem features a rosemary wreath and a Tudor crown, symbolizing remembrance and service. The award was established following a campaign by the fathers of Hughes and Bone. It serves as a civilian equivalent to the Elizabeth Cross, which honors fallen armed forces members.
