hindustantimes.com

Police have arrested five men for stealing copper cables from Delhi Metro tracks, disrupting services since February 2024. The thefts caused significant delays, including a six-hour disruption on the Red Line due to a stolen signalling cable. The suspects, aged 21 to 25, accessed the tracks by using debris and cutting barbed wire. They were caught after police analyzed CCTV footage and tracked their movements. Two of the suspects were later arrested in West Bengal. Since June 2023, there have been 89 reported cases of cable theft affecting metro infrastructure. The arrested individuals are now in judicial custody, and investigations continue to identify further suspects.
