Five rescued from sunk boats in Lake Rotoiti
Five people were rescued after two boats sank in Lake Rotoiti. The incident occurred when a broken-down boat began taking on water, and a passing vessel attempted to tow it. Three individuals swam to shore, while two others clung to floating items for an hour before being rescued. None of the five were wearing lifejackets. Coastguard Rotorua Lakes highlighted the importance of wearing lifejackets and having emergency communication devices during such incidents.
