Five-year-old Ralph Tatham successfully underwent quadruple transplant
A five-year-old boy named Ralph Tatham, who has been fighting a rare form of cancer, recently underwent a life-saving quadruple organ transplant. The operation included a new liver, small and large bowel, stomach, and pancreas. This transplant was made possible after Ralph's family raised over £500,000 with the help of readers from the Mail on Sunday. Ralph was diagnosed with hepatoblastoma, a type of liver cancer, when he was just three years old. Since then, he has undergone more than a dozen rounds of chemotherapy. His family started to raise money to possibly take him to the United States for a transplant, as there are more pediatric transplants done there. Fortunately, they received a call about a donor in January 2024, just when they were preparing to fly to the US. After spending four months in the hospital, Ralph is now home and enjoying lessons and playtime with his younger brother, Albie. His mother, Katie, expressed immense gratitude to the family of Ralph's organ donor. She also mentioned that Ralph's health remains a concern, as the cancer has returned twice and he faces complications from the transplant. Despite the challenges, Ralph’s family plans to create a trust using the remaining funds from the GoFundMe account to cover his ongoing medical needs. They want to be transparent about the donations, offering options for supporters regarding the remaining funds.
