Floods disrupt traffic and cause chaos in Johor Baru

JOHOR BARU: Heavy floods have caused major traffic problems in Johor Baru, leading many drivers to get stuck for hours. Afiq Azri Mohd Abdul Salam Subrayar, a mechanic, decided to close his workshop early to visit a Ramadan bazaar. He left around 4 PM on Thursday but ended up stuck in traffic for more than four hours. Afiq began his fast, but with no food or drinks in his car, he had to break it with just plain water. Despite the frustration, he appreciated the kindness of another motorist who shared food with him. “I am very grateful for the simple yet meaningful gesture,” Afiq said. Many others had similar experiences. Beautician Samly Soh, 50, tried to leave her shop early but spent over six hours on the road, reaching home around 10 PM. She turned off her car engine multiple times to save fuel while waiting in traffic. The floods have affected several areas in Johor Baru and other districts, including Kluang and Kota Tinggi, due to two days of heavy rain. These floods have created significant challenges for drivers, leading to frustration and long waits on the road.
