Florida and two other states reject abortion rights measures in recent votes
Voters in Florida, Nebraska, and South Dakota rejected measures to expand abortion rights, marking a shift in recent trends where most states approved such referendums. This is the first significant win for anti-abortion advocates since the Supreme Court's 2022 decision. In Florida, a proposal to guarantee abortion rights failed to meet the required 60% vote threshold, with 57% support. Nebraska voters upheld a 12-week abortion ban while rejecting a constitutional amendment for abortion rights. South Dakota voters also turned down a similar amendment. In contrast, states like Arizona, Missouri, and Nevada approved measures to expand abortion rights. Missouri's measure is notable as it guarantees rights through fetal viability, despite the state's existing total ban.
