Florida voters reject abortion rights amendment as DeSantis campaigns against it
Florida's Amendment 4, which aimed to restore abortion rights, failed to pass with 57 percent of the vote. The measure needed at least 60 percent support to amend the state constitution. This marks the first time voters have rejected a ballot measure for abortion rights since the Supreme Court ended federal protections in 2022. Governor Ron DeSantis actively campaigned against the amendment, using state resources to promote misinformation. DeSantis' administration faced criticism for its tactics, including sending cease-and-desist letters to media outlets and alleging fraud in signature collection. The six-week abortion ban in Florida will remain in effect.
