Florida voters reject constitutional amendment for abortion rights in 2024 election
Florida voters did not pass Amendment 4, which aimed to make abortion a constitutional right in the state. Although 57 percent supported the measure, it required 60 percent to succeed. The amendment sought to allow abortions until a fetus is deemed viable, typically around 20 to 25 weeks. Florida currently has a six-week abortion ban with limited exceptions. Governor Ron DeSantis opposed the amendment, citing concerns over its broad language. Supporters argued it was necessary to protect individual rights against restrictive state laws.
