Florida voters reject measure to enshrine abortion rights in state constitution
Florida voters have rejected a measure to add abortion rights to the state constitution. This outcome prevents any rollback of the state's six-week abortion ban, marking a setback for advocates who aimed to continue their recent successes in other states. The measure required 60% approval to pass, making it more challenging than similar initiatives in other states. Florida had previously been a refuge for those seeking abortions after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022. In the lead-up to the election, Florida Republicans intensified their opposition to the measure, including investigations into petition signers and launching a website against it. Results from nine other states voting on abortion-related initiatives are still pending.
