Focus on balanced roster, not just stolen bases
In fantasy baseball, focusing too much on stolen bases during the draft can be unwise. Speedy players are available throughout the draft and during the season, especially as injuries create new chances. Recent rule changes in Major League Baseball have led to a rise in stolen base rates, the highest seen since the late 1990s. This doesn’t mean to ignore star players like Elly De La Cruz or Shohei Ohtani, but you should be careful not to overvalue players whose main contribution is stolen bases. It’s better to create a balanced team. Many players in later rounds can offer help in multiple categories while also providing a modest number of stolen bases. For example, Milwaukee's Garrett Mitchell had a tough season last year due to a broken hand. He played only 69 games, hitting .255 with eight home runs, 21 RBIs, and 11 stolen bases. His minor league stats show he can perform well, with a batting average of .272, 17 home runs, and 41 stolen bases in 154 games.
