Folk Maritime adopts smart container technology in Middle East

Folk Maritime Services Company has partnered with ORBCOMM to use its smart container technology. This makes Folk Maritime the first shipping line in the Middle East to operate a smart dry container fleet. Folk Maritime is based in Saudi Arabia and provides feeder and regional liner services. The new technology will help improve supply chain visibility and protect cargo. Mohamed Badawi, the company's Chief Operating Officer, stated that this move will enhance their shipping operations and focus on sustainability. ORBCOMM's technology offers real-time tracking of containers and alerts for door security. This will help Folk Maritime prevent cargo theft and damage, ensuring better service for customers. Christian Allred, ORBCOMM’s Chief Commercial Officer, expressed excitement about this partnership, highlighting Folk Maritime's commitment to digitalization in the shipping industry. Founded in 2023, Folk Maritime aims to improve trade connections in the Middle East, Indian Subcontinent, and East Africa. They focus on creating efficient logistics services and new trade routes to support growth in the region.
