Folkestone's £20 million transformation includes new central park
Folkestone, an emerging seaside town in England, has announced a £20 million plan for upgrades that includes a new central park. The town was recognized as one of the best places to live and visit in the UK last year. The local council is supporting this significant project, which will transform the current bus station area at Bouverie Square into a beautiful park. The new park will feature walking paths, gardens, trees, a plaza with fountains, and seating areas. It will also include a play area for children. Councillor Clive Goddard expressed enthusiasm about the plans, noting that they will help local businesses thrive. The bus stops will be relocated closer to the Bouverie Place shopping centre, enhancing accessibility. Construction on the park is set to begin next week and is expected to be completed by next summer. In addition to the park, Folkestone is seeing other improvements, including renovations to the Lower Leas Coastal Park and the restoration of the Leas Lift, a funicular that connects the cliffs to the beach. The lift project, costing £6.6 million, will add new carriages and is scheduled to reopen in early 2026. The £20 million investment also includes upgrading traffic systems and pedestrian crossings across the town. Folkestone’s appeal is growing, bolstered by its unique art scene and proximity to London. In comparison, other seaside towns like Weston-super-Mare and Paignton are also planning renovation projects to brighten their attractions and infrastructure.
