Former Gainesville pastor Roland Julien dies at 86

The Rev. Roland Julien, former pastor of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Gainesville, died on December 26, 2024. He was ordained nearly 60 years ago and was known for his dedication to helping the homeless and those in poverty. Julien served in various roles within the Diocese of St. Augustine, including as pastor of multiple parishes and dean of the Gainesville Deanery. He was active in community service and civil rights initiatives, working closely with local leaders on homelessness issues. Funeral arrangements include a visitation on January 5 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Bishop Erik Pohlmeier will lead the service.
