Former NTU student sentenced for molestation and exploitation

A former part-time student at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Tnee Chin Kiat, has been sentenced to 27 months in jail and five strokes of the cane for multiple sexual offences. Tnee, aged 32, was convicted of molesting an 18-year-old girl and persuading a 13-year-old girl to pose in lingerie for photos in his dorm room. The incidents took place in 2018. Tnee used online advertisements to recruit models and met with the 18-year-old on several occasions. During the last session, he restrained her and molested her. The victim felt scared and uncomfortable during the photoshoot and expressed her wish to stop. Tnee also targeted a 13-year-old girl, convincing her to meet for a photoshoot. After she reluctantly agreed, he took her to his hostel room and pressured her to wear lingerie for photos. Despite her discomfort, he continued to take pictures and later bombarded her with messages for more sessions, which she ignored. Police became aware of Tnee's actions in 2020 when he was arrested for approaching another young girl. Authorities discovered that Tnee had numerous indecent materials, including child abuse content, on his devices. In court, the prosecutor called for a harsher sentence, given the serious nature of his crimes. The judge emphasized the need for Tnee to take responsibility for his actions and expressed hope that he could reform. Tnee acknowledged the judge's comments during the proceedings.
