Former officer sentenced for shooting ex-boyfriend in Florida
Yessenia Sanchez, a former Miami-Dade Schools police officer, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for shooting her ex-boyfriend, sheriff's deputy Damian Colón, in the face. She pleaded guilty to attempted murder and aggravated stalking. The shooting occurred in November 2022, when Sanchez tracked Colón to his home and shot him before fleeing the scene. Surveillance footage captured the incident, showing her pointing a gun at him and driving away recklessly. Colón, who now uses a wheelchair, attended the sentencing and expressed that justice was served. Sanchez had previously resigned from her job in 2021 due to domestic violence charges.
