Former teacher seeks Supreme Court review of sentence
A former teacher from Pine Island has requested a review from the Minnesota Supreme Court after the Minnesota Appellate Court upheld her sentence. Lindsey Rose Schneeberger, 26, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for sexually assaulting a student under the age of 14. She pled guilty to the charges in April 2024 and is currently serving an eight-year sentence. Schneeberger admitted to having an inappropriate relationship with a student between March and May 2023. She was charged in May 2023 following an investigation by the Rochester Police and the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office. Reports say she exchanged nude photos with the girl and assaulted her at her home. After Schneeberger appealed her sentence in June 2024, the appellate court decided that her case did not qualify for a sentence reduction. The court stated it was not an exceptional case that would warrant changing the original sentence. Now, Schneeberger is asking the Supreme Court to determine if the district court made an error in denying her request for a lesser sentence. Her legal team argues that the circumstances might justify a review. She was placed on leave from her teaching position in March 2023 and resigned shortly after.
