Former teacher sentenced for decades of student abuse
A former maths teacher, Michael McCue, has received a suspended prison sentence for sexually abusing students at a school in England over several decades. Now 91 years old, McCue was confronted by a victim who reported the abuse. When asked about the allegations, he claimed the victim "must have got the wrong teacher." McCue indecently assaulted several students at the former Page Moss School, later known as Bowring Community Sports College. These assaults took place in the late 1980s and early 1990s while he was in a trusted position as a teacher. Victims described incidents in which McCue touched them inappropriately while promising to befriend them and support them against bullying. During the court hearing, one victim shared his pain, stating that the abuse affected his life severely, leading to deep psychological struggles and attempts at self-harm. He called for justice, not just for himself but for all victims of abuse. McCue has a history of sexual offenses and has been sentenced multiple times before. In court, his defense attorney argued that due to his old age and health issues, he should not be sent to prison again. The judge acknowledged the severity of McCue’s actions but decided to impose a 24-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, allowing him to remain in the community. He was also ordered to pay court costs and will have to register as a sex offender for ten years.
