Former USPS employee stole $1.6M for lavish lifestyle

Hachikosela Muchimba, a former U.S. Postal Service employee, was found guilty of stealing over $1.6 million through mail theft and bank fraud. A federal jury reached the verdict on March 13, 2025. Muchimba, 44, stole U.S. Treasury and private checks from the mail between December 2020 and March 2023. He altered and deposited these checks into accounts he controlled, using the stolen funds for a lavish lifestyle. In addition to fraud charges, Muchimba was also convicted of unlawful procurement of naturalization for providing false information to immigration officials. His sentencing is scheduled for August 8, 2025.
