Former Wallaby captain Rocky Elsom sentenced to five years for embezzlement in France
Rocky Elsom, former captain of the Australian rugby team, has been sentenced to five years in prison for embezzling €1 million while serving as president of the Narbonne rugby club in France. An international arrest warrant has been issued due to his absence during the trial. Elsom reportedly paid an Australian resident a monthly salary for a position that did not exist. He was described as "untraceable" during the proceedings. He recently resurfaced in Ireland, where he was coaching rugby but withdrew from a public appearance after the arrest warrant was issued. Elsom's tenure at Narbonne began in 2014, aiming to revive the club's fortunes. However, tensions arose, leading to his departure in 2016 amid allegations of threats against a former club lawyer.
