Fort Frances library faces $25,000 funding cuts
Residents of Fort Frances, Ontario, are facing cuts to library services next year, according to CUPE 65. This union represents library workers in the area. They have reported that management plans to reduce funding, which will lead to the elimination of student positions and cuts to children's services and programming. Evan Miller, the CUPE 65 Unit Chair, expressed concern that the community might not be aware of these changes. He emphasized the library's importance as a community hub and a provider of various services. He noted that even with funding cuts, the library is expected to offer more services to residents facing increasing challenges. The town council has decided to cut $25,000 from the budget of the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre. Miller urged the community to voice their concerns about these cuts. He believes the management needs to meet the challenges rather than neglect the library's role in the community. CUPE represents library workers across 66 library systems in Ontario, advocating for better support and resources in public libraries.
