Four ATM fraud suspects arrested in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh

Four members of an ATM card fraud gang were arrested in Ballia after a gun battle with police early Thursday morning. The police recovered two pistols, four cartridges, 63 ATM cards, a car, and ₹7,688 from the suspects. The arrested individuals are from Motihari, Bihar. They have been identified as Bachcha Lal, Saheb Mahto, Madan Mahato, and Lalbabu Mahato. One member, Bachcha Lal, was injured in the leg during the encounter and is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital. Police received a tip-off about the gang's location and tried to stop their vehicle for inspection. However, the suspects attempted to flee. During the chase, one suspect fired at the police, leading to an exchange of gunfire, in which Bachcha Lal was shot. The suspects admitted during questioning that they had committed various ATM frauds. They targeted victims, tricked them into handing over their ATM cards, and then stole their money. The police stated that the gang had operated not just in Ballia, but also in other regions of Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
