Four high school hockey championships in Western PA today

Four high school hockey teams in Western Pennsylvania are set to compete for championships on March 18, 2025. The games will take place at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry and will be streamed online. The first match will feature Fox Chapel, the top seed with an 18-3-0-1 record, against second-seeded Cathedral Prep, which has a record of 15-4-2-0. The game starts at 6:15 p.m. Fox Chapel reached the finals after a close semifinal win against Penn-Trafford. Junior Hayden Ferra scored the winning goal in that match. Cathedral Prep has had a strong postseason, not allowing any goals. Their goaltender, Ian Brown, has saved all 48 shots faced so far in the playoffs. In the second game at 8:45 p.m., Morgantown, the top seed from West Virginia, will play against Burrell, the second seed from Pennsylvania. Morgantown, with a record of 19-1-2-0, aims for its first PIHL title. In the playoffs, they have dominated their opponents, including an 11-0 win in the quarterfinals. Burrell, which has a record of 17-2-2-1, is also vying for its first championship. Switching to baseball, Hopewell and Riverside teams are set to face off in a non-section game. Both teams were successful in their past seasons. Hopewell won the 2023 WPIAL 4A championship after a surprising run, while Riverside was undefeated on its way to winning the 2023 district 3A title. The game at Hopewell comes after both teams had different starts to their seasons; Hopewell lost its opener earlier.
