Four officers face disciplinary action over Brella case
Four police officers are facing disciplinary notices related to the case of Harshita Brella, a 24-year-old woman found dead in a car boot. Her body was discovered on November 14, 2024, in Ilford, east London. Harshita Brella's husband, Pankaj Lamba, 23, has been charged with her murder, along with two counts of rape and other offenses. Authorities believe Brella was strangled on November 10 before her body was transported to Ilford. Lamba reportedly left the UK after her death. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has issued notices to four Northamptonshire police officers. Two of these are for gross misconduct, while the other two are for potential misconduct. The IOPC's investigation is looking into the police's handling of a domestic abuse report made by Brella in August 2024. Lamba was arrested on September 3 but released on bail with a domestic violence protection order. Derrick Campbell, IOPC director, stated that the investigation is still ongoing. The disciplinary notices indicate that the officers are under investigation but do not guarantee that disciplinary action will be taken. The assessment will determine if any officers will face a disciplinary case.
