Franklin Regional's swimming teams have wrapped up a successful season. The girls’ team placed seventh at the PIAA Swimming and Diving Championship held from March 12-15 at Bucknell University. Coach Dan Taylor is pleased with their performance and optimistic about the future. Many of the female swimmers achieved podium finishes this year. Junior Maggie Hull finished fifth in the 200 freestyle and eighth in the 500 freestyle. Sophomore Scarlett Zolnak earned sixth place in the 200 freestyle and twelfth in the 100 backstroke. Other notable performances included junior Amelia Oates, who placed twelfth in the 200 individual medley, and sophomore Kendyl Kurimsky, who swam in the 100 butterfly. The girls also excelled in relay races. Their 200 medley relay team finished twelfth, while the 200 freestyle relay team came in sixth. The 400 freestyle relay team placed fifth. Coach Taylor expressed pride in their achievements and emphasized the goal to improve even more next year. On the boys' side, they competed in Class 3A. Sophomore Thomas Westerman was the only swimmer to score points, finishing twelfth in the 200 freestyle. Senior Eric Lingg also participated in the 200 individual medley. The boys had relay teams in both the 200 and 400 freestyle events. Coach Taylor noted Westerman's achievement in his first year on varsity. He is confident about the prospects for next season, mentioning seven boys moving up from middle school who could be key contributors. Taylor believes the future looks bright for Franklin Regional swimming.
